Call for Participation »Vis Papers

Research papers are solicited that present original research results clearly related to visualization problems. Application papers are solicited that present the contribution of visualization techniques toward the understanding of application-specific data. In particular, application papers must examine and discuss the effectiveness of the visualization methods for the particular application, while it is not essential to present original visualization techniques. For both research and application papers, we seek submissions of high quality that significantly further the knowledge and understanding of the visualization community.

All papers accepted to IEEE Visualization 2008 will appear in a special issue (Nov/Dec 2008) of IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG) containing the conference proceedings. This special issue will be published before the conference, the publication date aimed at is October 1st. Papers (including supplemental material) may undergo a revision and review cycle after initial notification of review results in order to ensure they are acceptable for publication and presentation in the journal.

We solicit papers in the traditional core of the visualization area. Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:

  • Distributed and Collaborative Visualization
  • Flow Visualization
  • Information Visualization
  • Isosurfaces and Surface extraction
  • Large Data Visualization
  • Multi-Resolution Techniques
  • Multimodal Visualization
  • Novel Mathematics for Visualization
  • Parallel Visualization and Graphics Clusters
  • Point-Based Visualization
  • Security and Network Intrusion Visualization
  • Software Visualization
  • Terrain Visualization
  • Time Critical Visualization
  • Time-Varying Data
  • Uncertainty Visualization
  • Unstructured Grids
  • Usability and Human Factors in Visualization
  • Vector/Tensor Visualization
  • Virtual Environments
  • Visual Knowledge Discovery
  • Visualization Systems
  • Visualization in Earth, Space, and Environmental Sciences
  • Visualization in Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Engineering
  • Visualization in Social and Information Sciences
  • Visualization over Networks, Grids, and the Internet
  • Volume Visualization

Papers will be submitted electronically here. Submissions are limited to 8 pages.

The paper formatting page provides details and guidelines for preparing a proper submission. Guidelines for supplementary materials may be found here. Authors must follow the style guidelines specified there.

» Submission and Review Process

IEEE Visualization 2008 will use a double-blind review process for the first review cycle. Therefore authors should NOT include their name or institution on the cover page of the initial submission, and should make effort to ensure that no self-revealing information in the texts (such as drawing explicit connection with authors' previous work, or making acknowledgments to colleagues). Authors should also avoid posting their submitted manuscript on the web until the notification date of the first review cycle.

The submission of a video (up to 5 minutes in length) to accompany the paper is encouraged. Papers, videos, and supporting materials will be submitted electronically. Note that submission of an abstract for each paper is mandatory by March 21, 2008 and full papers are due 10 days later. All submissions must be original works that have not been published previously in any conference proceedings, magazine or journal. Concurrent submissions are strictly not permitted. If it is determined that a manuscript is simultaneously under the consideration by another publication venue (e.g., conference, journal, edited book) during the review process of IEEE Visualization 2008, the manuscript will immediately be rejected.
